"Someone on the Internet asked my teacher for help with a construction problem and we're supposed to be able to figure it out without having to do calculations on the numbers." "OK, tell me the problem, and come closer, you're so far away." " A driveway contractor proposed installing two 4" drains instead of one 6" drain so that the owner would have greater water control. He pointed out that the material costs would be greater, and the labor costs would be greater, but he would absorb the extra expense so that the owner could get a better product. We're supposed to think about whether the contractor was right about the greater water control. Apparently there are a number of different ways to think about it and we're supposed to present as many as we can find." (Thanks to Ben Preddy for sending this one in.)
