FAQ about Using the Problems of the Week

Login and Password Difficulties
Troubleshooting tips to help you gain access to your account.

How can I find out more about using my account?
Our Teacher's Guide to the Problems of the Week [PDF format] includes a review of the program's features, ideas on implementing it in your classroom, and details about site navigation.

How Students' Usernames Are Created
Before setting up your students' account, please read how this works.

Setting Up Student Accounts
To have your students submit online, set up their accounts following these instructions.

How Students Use Their Accounts
After students have accounts, what's next?

Why Don't Students Need Email?
Students can check their mail using our Message Center.

Can my students see the solution before they submit?
No. They can see our answer (not the process we used) after they submit their own, and they can revise their solution after checking our Answer Check. Students will see fewer links than teachers when they log in, which is why teachers shouldn't share their own access with students.

I signed up for a trial account, but never got to use it. Can it be extended?
Sure, we'll be happy to extend it once for you. Please write to us using the information at the bottom of this page.

How do you come up with the Problems of the Week? Do you accept suggestions? Our class just created one...
We have a team of mathematicians and math educators who get together each week to hash out the problems and their wording. (They actually do the math for everything!) They're always happy to have suggestions--you can send yours in to us using the contact information at the bottom of this page. Be sure to include accurate contact information for yourself so we can get back in touch with you about it!
