2009 Mathematics Game - The Math Forum (30 December 2008)
Use the digits in the year 2009 and the operations +, -, x, ÷, ^ (raised to a power), sqrt (square root), and ! (factorial), along with grouping symbols, to write expressions for the counting numbers 1 through 100. This year we will also allow the use of decimal points and double-digit numbers. Submissions open January 1 and the first solutions will be posted February 1 2009.

Victoria Miles's Mathematics Lessons (19 December 2008)
Victoria Miles created these lessons to guide students' mathematical discoveries by capturing their attention with interactive programs or applets. The lessons, for grades 6-8, are based on the Massachusetts State math standards, which are based on the national (NCTM) standards. Victoria shared these lessons with the Math Forum, and developed "Exploring Distance, Rate, and Time" while she was taking one of our NSDL Online Workshops.

NSDL Online Workshops (6 December 2008)
The Math Forum has been hosting a series of online workshops for teachers who work with students in 5th through 9th grade. Teachers will explore the Math Tools digital library and several software tools that contribute in some way to mathematical understanding, problem solving, reflection and discussion. Applications are now open for:
Using Technology and Problem Solving to Build Algebraic Reasoning
January 12 - February 23 2009
Overview ||  Dates for 2008-2009 || Application
Technology Tools for Thinking and Reasoning about Probability

The Math Forum, Amazon.com and Target Online (5 December 2008)
Many Math Forum community members regularly shop online at Amazon.com and/or Target. If you add one small extra step, you can help the Math Forum.

Just bookmark or select our page as a "favorite" in your browser. The next time you start to shop online, first click through the "amazon.com" or "Target" icons on our page. If you then purchase anything at either site, a little revenue will come our way, at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your help!
