The Biggest Box
Suppose you are going to make a box by cutting congruent squares out
of each corner of a 3 foot by 3 foot sheet of cardboard and then
folding the sides up. What size should the squares be to make the
largest volume possible? Use a spreadsheet to compute the volumes
for different corner cuts.
