The Students of MAT 4113: Computer Topics in Mathematics
The University of Texas at San AntonioThere are about 20 students in this class, most of whom will become high school mathematics teachers. However, there are several who will be teaching elementary school. Some of our students had never really used a computer before this class and are just learning how to e-mail and use the Web and things like that. Of course, some of our students are experts. They're all interested in working with young people and are excited about this project.
Our class has both girls and guys. Some of them have children (even grandchildren) of their own. All of them are fun to teach.
As for me, I'm Sandy (from Alexander). I'm the teacher of this class, although I think I learn as much from my students as they do from me. I've been teaching mathematics for twenty or more years, including for a time at the middle grade and secondary levels, but mostly in universities in Georgia, North Carolina, and now, Texas. I have a 9 year old boy who loves math and geography, and a 5 year old girl who likes to read and swim. They both (me too!) like to go camping, hiking and climbing. We now have four dogs and three cats.
