Claudia Carter

Claudia currently teaches 11th and 12th grade at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, located in Columbus, MS. She obtained her BS and MA in Mathematics Education from the University of New Orleans, and has been teaching for 33 years. Claudia is a National Board Certified Teacher in Secondary Mathematics.

She has won many national awards for teaching, including Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching, the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award (2004), and was chosen as Teacher of the Year for the Mississippi School (2005). Claudia has coauthored at least seven mathematics textbooks, ranging from prealgebra to an integrated series sponsored by COMAP and the NSF. She has conducted many teacher training workshops and mentors middle school teachers through a grant from the Institutes of Higher Learning in MS.
