When elementary students graph data by placing a marble at various points on a ramp (i.e.10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm from the bottom of the ramp) and then measuring the distance it pushes a half paper cup, is this considered discrete data or continuous data? The directions for this activity say the students can graph the data on a bar graph and then make predictions for distances not measured directly. Is this accurate? What constitutes discrete data from continuous data. I am aware of the basic definitions for both of these types of data. Are the directions for graphing this activity on a bar graph correct?
