there could be a number of things wrong, not nessisarily just a
problem requiring a hard reset...when you turn it on, hit 2nd and hold
down the down arrow...your contrast may be off.

if that doesnt work, to hard reset it, you take out a battery, and
while putting it back in, hold down delete. if you have any more
