From: Roger <rbreen@fccj.edu> To: Teacher2Teacher Public Discussion Date: 2007120512:22:39 Subject: assessment Gail is absolutely correct...pick and choose when and how to "grade". For homework; + if they seem to get it; - if they don't If possible in the next class, have the +'s help the -'s. Then let the students redo the assignment. For determining a grade, keep the tests short and frequent. Make certain that each problem tests a specific skill. Keep complex problems to a minimum. When students are in groups, give the group a complex problem...watch and listen to the discussions. Check out "Project Zero" Harvard graduate school of education. Lots of good suggestions.
