From: Dale <cuate4@home.com> To: Teacher2Teacher Public Discussion Date: 2001022623:36:00 Subject: Classroom Openers Put "Mystery Initials" for special days on the board. Example: TIFD Today is Flag Day. Students have to guess what the inititals mean. Put the date (in numerical form) up on the board (it ends questions like "What is today's date??") and see if there is anything numerically interesting about it. Example, today is 2-26-01. Students suggest patterns or connections. Like 2 + 2 + 6 = 10 and that is 01 backwards. Or compute 2 minus 26 minus 01 (-25)
