A minus sign  before a Parenthesis will result in every sign inside
changing so:

-56=-10w - 16 - 3w + 12 Collect like terms on right side

-56 = -13w -4  Add +4 to each side of the equation

-52 = =13w    Divide both sides by -13

4 = w or 
w = 4  

Check by pluging 4 into each w of the original eq.

-56=-10(4) - 16 - 3(4) + 12 
-56 = -40 -16 -12 + 12
-56 = -40 -16 
-56 = -56  Checks
