Mechanics need to be able to sort sockets, drills, wrenches etc. by sizes; particularily those that are given as fractions such as 1/2, 5/8 etc. By the way, that is a good activity for students who are learning about add unlike fraqctions. Bring a bunch of sockets to class and let kids sort them by size.
