An array is a representation of information in a row and column arrangement. When discussing multiplication of numbers--the array forms a row and column pattern to represent the factors of a number. Students seem to acquire understanding of a concept quicker with an example rather than a formal definitiion; however, providing the definition with examples is effective teaching.
