You round 17 to 20 73 to 70 289 to 300 27 to 30 20+70+300+30=420. When you round 289 to the greatest place, you round it up to 300. Underline the 2. Go next door to the 8. Since 8 is more than 5, 2 becomes 3 (it goes up by 1) and everything to the right becomes a zero. Hope that helps.
