It does not teach any concept at all. Students need to multiply each fraction by the correct fraction that equals 1. It is SO IMPORTANT that students learn the underlying properties that lead to the answer. 1/3 + 3/4 = 1/3*4/4 + 3/4*3/3 = 4/12 + 9/12 = 13/12 We need to stress good fundamentals!
