Subject: Multiplication teaching strategies

My faculty is deadlocked on the question of how to teach multiplication to
fourth graders. Most of us feel that using concrete materials is best
initially. Some teachers prefer to use the lattice method so that the
students will be able to compute on standardized tests. What do you think?
