I teach 17-21 year olds who have fallen behind in their math sequence of study. Currently, I'm teaching them about the use of factoring to solve quadratic equations. While most of them can grasp the mechanical aspect of factoring and solving the equation, they don't understand how that can be applied to real life situations. What are some real life applications of factoring and quadratic equations? What reference materials do you suggest for real life math applications? Thank you.
