Subject: Teaching subtraction and division to an adult

How would you teach a middle-aged adult the fundamentals of subtraction and
division?  This individual is very articulate, and proficient in his job, but
due to a very bad childhood experience, has decided to block math from his
mind.  This of course has prevented him from progressing to middle management
because of his fears.
