The process began nearly two decades ago with An Agenda for Action. The messages presented in that document served as a foundation for NCTMís Curriculum and Evaluations Standards for School Mathematics, which was released in 1989.
The Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics was released in 1991 and the Assessment Standards for School Mathematics was released in 1995. Combined, these three documents set standards for mathematics excellence for grades Kñ12.
