Types of Triangles

  1. Open the sketch triangletypes.gsp or view the JavaSketchpad applet. Drag the vertices of each of the four triangles (red, blue, green, purple). Record what you notice about the angles and the lengths of the sides of each of the triangles. Based on these observations, what kind of triangle do you think each is?

  2. Go to page 2. Drag the vertices of the triangles and explain whether or not the additional information provided agrees with the conclusions you made above for each triangle.

  3. Go to page 3. Again, drag the vertices of the triangles and explain whether or not the additional information provided agrees with the conclusions you made above for each triangle.

  4. You can move the blue and purple triangles so that they "match up," or are exactly the same in every way (try it!). Explain which other pairs of triangles match up and which ones don't. Be sure not to miss any pairs (there should be six, including the blue and purple).

  5. Which triangle is your favorite? Why?
