facilitator: Max Ray
location: computer lab
agenda and links
Description: Interested in an online course focused on the first six chapters of the book, Powerful Problem Solving? We'll spend this session logging in, getting oriented and doing the first couple of activities so that you can decide if this is an activity you'd like to participate in for 2 or 3 hours a week between today and our next PD session on Friday, February 13. Participants who successfully complete this six week online course will receive 2 CEUs (equivalent to 20 professional development hours) from the Drexel University School of Education.

Sense Making

facilitator: Annie Fetter
location: library
PowerPoint Slides for K-4 Session [pdf]
PowerPoint Slides for 5-12 Session [pdf]
Description: The very first Mathematical Practice, "make sense of problems", includes many ideas that have long been foci of literacy instruction. Yet when "math" starts, both teachers and students often leave those good habits behind. We'll extend some of the ideas addressed in the Keynote and explore how to translate literacy routines into good mathematical practices. We'll also play with a tool that provides a possible platform for integrating more of these ideas into math instruction.
NOTE: Included in this session will be a hands-on overview of the CueThink iPad App. Together we'll take a tour and try out the app using iPads provided by Dr. Woodard's office. If you have an iPad, however, feel free to bring your own to this session!
