Check back, as we will be updating our information.
What are Teacher-Researchers
Learning About Their Practice? - The Math Forum's Bridging Research and
Practice Project: A Collaboration to Study Mathematical
The Math Forum's contingent is one of three groups of collaborators who participated in the NCTM Working Conference on Teacher Research in Mathematics Education. In this session, they share their questions, a sample of their data, inferences drawn from these data, and how this work has affected their practice. The audience will be asked to explore issues that arise when research is integrated into practice.
The Math Forum: Realizing a Vision for Supporting Teaching and Learning Mathematics on the Internet
Description: Using the Math Forum as a point of departure, participants will explore resources, services, and research using the Internet. Discussion topics will include curriculum connections, problem solving, mentoring, assessment, and more. Participants will have time to conduct searches on mathematical content relevant to their instructional needs.
Standards-Aligned Mathematics Lessons Using Technology as a Tool
Description: Suzanne's Mathematics Lessons are middle school activities, lesson plans, and units aligned to NCTM (and local) Standards that I have been developing since 1995. The session will provide insight into how these lessons can be used in any curriculum that has a Standards-based focus.
Girl Power and PoW: Using the Internet to Encourage Girls' Participation in Higher Level Mathematics
Description: Explore ways to use the Internet to provide challenges for algebra students. We will share our experience using the Math Forum's Problem of the Week (PoW) as a tool for facilitating Girl Power, an after-school club to encourage excellence in mathematics for middle school girls mentored by high school girls.
Ask-Your-Colleagues: The Math Forum Online Teacher2Teacher Service
Description: Teacher2Teacher is the Math Forum's resource for teachers and parents who have questions about teaching and learning mathematics. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to find lesson and activity ideas, ask questions, and discuss teaching tips online. We will look at other teacher resources on the Math Forum site, and address some of the challenges that arise when searching the Web for useful materials.
Enhancing Mathematical Communication Using Problems of the Week from the Math Forum
Description: Participants will have an opportunity to experience the new format for some of the Problems of the Week, which provides students with hints, ways to check their answer, and other student solutions to which they can compare their own. We will also look at student submissions to those same problems, discuss feedback from mentors, and talk about how the Problems of the Week can be incorporated into your instructional plan.
Using the Math Forum as a Medium for Professional Learning
Description: Participants will be introduced to Teacher2Teacher and Bridging Research and Practice -- two projects facilitated by the Math Forum. Conversation will focus on ways that the Web and in particular The Math Forum can support teachers' professional learning. Ways in which these experiences have been used to attain professional credit will be discussed.
