Mary Steady has been a Basic Skills teacher of K-6 reading, math, and language arts for 21 years at West Cape May Elementary School in Cape May, NJ. For fall '96 she is developing a project using HyperStudio with ten 5th and 6th grade students to study the flora and fauna of the local salt marsh, integrating science, math, language arts, and technology and incorporating measurement and graphic skills. She has created a HyperStudio tutorial, "Cape May Birds," that includes the song and data about each of 10 birds according to size, shape, field marks, site, and season. She is responsible for her school's computer lab, and last year won a Bell Atlantic grant with which the school purchased a new computer on a movable cart and wired every classroom with a telephone line so that all teachers had access to the Internet from the classroom. She has attended two workshops on the use of Netscape given by consultants from Stevens Institute, and has.given an in-service on the use of the Internet. She is very interested in the use of computers and the Internet to integrate math, science, reading, language arts, and technology.
