An institute for pioneering elementary, middle, and high school mathematics teachers will be held at the Math Forum office in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
The Math Forum announces an invitational program for mathematics teachers who are committed to or experienced with the use of computers in the classroom. A select group of participants will have the opportunity to engage the latest projects and challenges involving the presentation, evaluation, cataloging and development of mathematics resources available on the Web. Essentially, we expect to bring together a few people with the 'right stuff' to help us think about the use of the Internet and its vast resources to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics.
This is the sixth in a series of highly regarded summer conferences hosted by the Math Forum, an on-line community, whose goal is to enable teachers and students to exchange ideas, conduct projects, explore new software, organize and create electronic resources, and enhance learning through access to mathematicians and math educators internationally.
The Math Forum, now operating under the name MathForum.com, continues its efforts to build an effective virtual center and community for education on the Internet. This summer's group of Forum Teacher Associates will continue an important tradition in which the evolution of the Forum itself results from the initiative, activity and contributions of the community members.
During the course of the Institute participants will explore ways to make resources and materials on the Math Forum site even more accessible, useful and intuitive. Specifically, participants will:
The Institute will run from Tuesday, July 25th through Friday, August 11th. The hours each day are 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Lunch will be provided.
Participants will receive a $500 honorarium and a letter of participation to their Supervisor or Superintendent.
Each participant must cover any travel costs incurred, although some travel stipends may be available. Participants who continue working on projects during the summer and the following school year will be eligible for additional Forum Teacher Associate stipends.
