Now that you have enrolled in MathWorld Interactive, you'll want to know how to participate!

The first thing you will want to do is see what other students are participating in MathWorld Interactive by checking out the Membership Page.

Every nine weeks, challenges are posted on the MathWorld Interactive website for grades 7-8. Click here for current challenge calendar.

Once you have the challenges, your student(s) work on the challenge following a specific written format! All solutions must be submitted in this format so be sure to include all six steps of the format. In addition, all work should be submitted in complete sentences!

The MathWorld Interactive problem-solving format is:

1) Write what you know - In other words, write the facts of the entire problem.

2) Write what you are looking for in the problem - This is a good one! Write what the problem is asking you to find out. Remember, with MathWorld Interactive challenges, there may be MANY different questions to answer!

3) Write ALL your strategies - *IMPORTANT* This is the main focus of MathWorld Interactive. We want to know everything you do to solve the problem. We even want to know if you make a mistake that you later correct. Tell us every time you use a calculator or ask a friend for help. If you draw a picture, explain in words what your picture looks like so we can all picture it, as well. This section should be quite lengthy and detailed.

4) Write your solutions - Tell us the solution that you have settled on. No need to explain further (you did that in Step #3), just give us your final decision.

5) Check your work - Tell us in sentences how you checked the work to be sure it was correct! If you find a mistake, go back to strategies and tell us about it!

6) Extend - This is the real fun! Here's your chance to challenge other MathWorld Interactive participants. Make up a new challenge based on the original. Change a little here and there..or change a lot! These problems usually bring about a lot of fun problem solving and discussion, as well.

Once you've completed the work, post your answers by submitting your solutions on-line at the MathWorld Interactive Website or emailing them to MathWorld Interactive.

Have any questions or want to share an idea? Send those questions and ideas to MathWorld Interactive.

And, drumroll please, now the AWARDS!

Three weeks after the end of the challenge cycle, student awards will be posted in the general area of MathWorld Interactive so that your student receives recognition for their hard work. In addition, SWEEPSTAKES winners receive an e-mail certificate which can be printed for your student.

See how easy it is? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
