Instructional Goal/ Topic (Standards)
What do you want the learners to know and be able to do? What are the overarching questions that you want learners to be able to answer? What are the key target standards? How will this unit of study/learning activity support learners reaching the Guiding Principles, Content Standards and Performance Indicator(s) you have identified?
Assessment Instruments (Assessment)
Determine how the learners will show they understand the key concepts and have met the standards. What tasks, performances, demonstrations, quizzes, tests, projects or other tools will you develop and use to collect evidence? How will students communicate their learning to others?
Key Ideas (Content)
Determine the essential questions that will anchor your unit of study/learning activity. What enduring and accurate key knowledge and/or skills will learners acquire through this experience? What do they need to know and be able to do before they tackle this content?
Instructional Strategy (Worthiness)
Determine the learning experience(s) that will engage learners in exploring the key ideas and questions you want them to be able to answer at the end of the unit/learning activity (hands-on activities, cooperative groups, role-playing, panel presentations, etc.). Decide on the authentic, challenging ways you will use to equip them to demonstrate achievement of the targeted standards. Determine how technology will be used (if appropriate) used to gain essential knowledge/information &/or develop meaningful products. Think about how you can challenge students to think about problems, ideas, etc. in different ways.
Learners and Contexts (Equity/Accessibility/Fairness)
Consider the characteristics of the learners, including current competencies, learning styles, personal and social characteristics, physical and emotional abilities, gender and cultural characteristics. How can the unit/learning activity be designed to best meet the needs of all learners? What criteria do you use for assessment? How do you make the criteria clear?
Resources & Materials Needed
Determine the equipment, materials, and time needed, including online resources.
