Teaching Math with Technology
by Ihor Charischak with Suzanne Alejandre
The overall purpose of this website is to take a close look at how technology can enhance the teaching and learning process. In this section we look closely at how experienced teachers work their craft which we hope will help other teachers gain some insights into this dynamic way of teaching. Since teaching is (as we all know) an incredibly complex undertaking, I will narrow the focus by looking at the technology/math/teaching process through various windows each of which focus on a specific area of teacher know-how in using technology in the mathematics classroom. These teacher knowledge portals are:
  • resources
  • learning environment
  • curriculum & connections to Standards
  • learning mathematics
  • teaching & learning strategies
  • assessment
For more on these six areas see Ihor's article A Look at Technology's Role in Professional
Development of Mathematics Teachers at the Middle School Level (School Science & Mathematics, November, 2000)

I hope you find our lesson examples interesting and provocative. We encourage you to post your thoughts at the Math.teaching.technology discussion forum.

This paper is divided into five parts including this page and they are:
