Hi Math Doctors,

As you might expect (because of the holiday), December was busier than
a summer month, but slower than a regular school month. Here's the year
at a glance:

Jan 6332 ...................................... [Asked]

That's a total of 73,236 questions asked, and 37,214 questions
answered - about 51 percent of the total. (And this doesn't include
visits from people who find the answers to their questions in the
archive or FAQ.) Any way you look at it, that's a lot of answers,
from a remarkable collection of volunteers.

More than 30 math doctors contributed answers in December, including:

Welcome to new Math Doctors Edwin and Jacques, and congratulations
to newly tenured Doctor Kastner.

There are no changes to the office to discuss this month, so let's
close the year with the following heartfelt thank-you, which
recently showed up in triage (accompanied by a $250 donation via
the Math Forum's 'Donate' page):

I just wanted to say thank you for performing this service.
  I'm thrilled.
  I'm ecstatic.
  My kids will benefit.
  So will I.
  Thank you very much.

(In case you're wondering, no, that's not _the_ Gordon Moore, of Moore's
Law fame.)

That's it for 2002! Go forth, be fruitful, and teach kids to
multiply...
