Geometry and Basketball

How do you lay out a basketball court?
Why isn't the three-point arc circular?
Haven't some leagues or college conferences had a trapezoidal key?
What's up with that?
What part of the tape marks the actual boundary of the court--is it
the outside edge, middle, or inside edge? Does it make a difference?
The rectangle marked on the backboard--why is it the size it is?
