I liked your message! How about "having the form of tons" - in other
words, being a particularly weighty and important sort of torus?

This must surely be it! I missed it at first thjrough mistakenly
pronouncing the word - it's now obvious that the "s" should be
voiced, so that it sounds roughly like "tonzoidal", when the weightiness
sounds through more clearly.
