Dear all,

I was a-mazed to find out that in (my) Portuguese I could not find two
words like maze and labyrinth. We do have 'labirinto', though.

My Collins dictionary also a-mazed me. There I found:

maze: 1. a complex network of paths or passages, esp. one with high
hedges in a garden, designed to puzzle those walking through it.

and,

labyrinth: 1. a mazelike network of tunnels, chambers or paths, either
natural or man-made.

Maybe that is the difference: mazes are always man-made, while
'labyrinth' covers both the natural and the man-made cases, as in the
Portuguese language.

I guess this agrees with what Peter Schreiber said

> In my opinion ...[a] maze is a game...

but there are situations (like in the movie 'The Shining') where one has
to face a maze without global information.

all the best,
Romulo
