The Collingwood/McGovern book is _Nilpotent Orbits in Semisimple Lie
Algeras_. Section 3.1 draws a connection between partitions and
Jordan blocks, but hook lengths don't seem to come up. Maybe something
in Sagan's _The Symmetric Group_ would help connect the ideas. I
also understand that Cambridge is about to release a book by Fulton
entirely on Young tableaux -- could be relevant.
