Some computer systems evaluate these two expressions differently: 2/3(5) and 2/3*5.
Such systems do "implied multiplication" before other multiplication and division.
In general, I tell my students never to use the slash for division or for fractions. Also, I encourage them that when they see (2/3)(5) (typed the way it usually is with a horizontal fraction bar) they should write 2(5)/3 (with a horizontal fraction bar.
