hi there,concerning your Q1 :
we have :
(x+y)^2=x^2+y^2+2xy
thus,4=8+2xy so xy=-2
same idea for b)!!
that's one method there might be other proofs.
Q2
don't waste too much time trying to figure out the pattern because there is none.
