>I don't know what this "Last Thursdayism" might be: I'd be most grateful for some information about it.

Oh, there's a wikipedia page on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omphalos_hypothesis

Its something that supposedly enlightened beings like to make fun of, especially if they can tie it to making fun of people with religious sentiments. On the other hand, I like to tie it to the deep cosmological puzzle that originated with Boltzmann: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boltzmann_brain and that modern science and cosmology has no really satisfactory to.

The wikipedia page on Boltzman Brains is really inadequate - try searching the archives at the New York Times (e.g., http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/15/science/15brain.html?pagewanted=all) for some popular articles, or generally on the web (e.g., http://physics.about.com/od/thermodynamics/f/BoltzmannBrains.htm) for all sorts of crazy discussions. The main ommision on wikipedia I think is to connect the BB paradox with the entropy of the big bang.

Note that when truly scientific minds get around to dwelling on the extreme results of their theories, they handily dismiss them with sharp rational demonstrations, such as calling names "(Absurd!")
