Subject: calculators in the classroom

The dialogue we are currently having points out to me once again that using
calculators for the old curriculum--worksheets with addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division problems--is a disservice to the learners. But
then again, I am one of those who believes that that curriculum itself is a
disservice to the learners. Calculators and other new technologies should
be pushing us toward developing new and better ways to provide learning
opportunities for students. Geri Anderson-Nielsen
