1995 Summer Institute
July 10 - July 14
The Calculus with Calculator and Computer Enhancement Summer Institute
is a one-week intensive course designed to help teachers of Advanced
Placement Calculus. The course will feature the use of the powerful
TI-82 graphics calculator and should help prepare students for the new
AP Calculus exam which will require the use of a graphics calculator in
May, 1995. The course will help bring you up to date on the calculus
reform movement that is gaining momentum at colleges and universities
across the nation. The TI-85 will also be made available and its use
will be compared with the TI-82.
The Institute is co-sponsored by Texas Instruments and is based on
materials designed by a team of C3E instructors, led by Frank Demana
and Bert Waits of The Ohio State University. The new text by Thomas,
Finney, Demana and Waits will be used. The instructor will be
Charles Reno, high school teacher from Euclid High School with experience
in teaching AP math, physics and computer science in addition to reading
AP examinations in all three subjects.
Thanks to the generous grant, the basic cost of the Institute will be $150.
In addition, the TI-82 calculators will be available at a special Institute
price of $60(TI-85 cost is $65). Your school will be asked to pay your cost
share which includes the basic cost and a personal TI-8X calculator for
your classroom use. Graphics calculators should be available to all students!
Enrollment will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants.
Please inquire about graduate credit(pending) and motel housing.
