The Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum at the
University of Missouri (MU) invites applications for a position
as Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics
Education (9-month academic, tenured/tenure-track
appointments beginning August 15, 2014).
Successful candidates will work with internationally recognized,
award-winning faculty in the MU mathematics education group (
http://education.missouri.edu/LTC/mathematics/index.php). The
program is home to eight tenure-track mathematics education faculty
members, including two with administrative appointments.
MU mathematics education has a large and well-respected doctoral
program that prepares the next generation of mathematics teacher
educators and educational researchers. Its faculty members are active
researchers addressing a range of important questions (see website for
information on current research projects). At the undergraduate level,
preservice teachers at MU earn certification in elementary education
(Grades 1-6), middle grades mathematics (grades 5-9), or secondary
mathematics (9-12). The MU alternative certification program,
SMAR2T, attracts recent graduates and career changers for preparation
as middle and/or secondary mathematics teachers.
Responsibilities:
. Establish and engage in a productive research program in
mathematics education that yields high-quality scholarly
publications;
. Secure external funding for research and service
projects;
. Teach mathematics pedagogy courses at the undergraduate
and graduate levels as well as seminars in the Ph.D. program;
. Advise, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate
students.
. Contribute to the national visibility, stature, and
impact of the MU mathematics education program.
Required Qualifications:
. Ph.D. in mathematics education or related field;
. Evidence of effective teaching at the university
level;
. Emerging or demonstrated scholarly productivity.
Preferred Qualifications:
. Current funding or potential for obtaining external
funding;
. Online course development and teaching experience;
. Teaching certificate or K-12 teaching experience.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
and qualifications.
Appointment: Tenure-track, nine-month appointment
beginning August 15, 2014.
