Call for Papers

The Third East Asia Regional Conference on
Mathematics Education (EARCOME 3) will be held in
Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou in China in
August 5-12, 2005. See
(&lt;<a href="http://euler.math.ecnu.edu.cn/earcome3/Announcements.htm">http://euler.math.ecnu.edu.cn/earcome3/Announcements.htm</a>&gt;<a href="http://euler.math=">http://euler.math=</a>
.ecnu.edu.cn/earcome3/Announcements.htm).

One of the sessions on the program of
ICMI-EARCOME 3 is the Topic Study Group 6 on
Assessment.

Aims and Focus

Review of recent international comparison studies
on mathematics achievement such as TIMSS
and PISA has shown that students of East Asian
countries tend to perform better than their
counterparts in other countries. This has aroused
much interest and raised questions such as:

How did these students excel in their mathematics?
How do we assess our students
