My entire district implemented the Investigations program in Grades
K.-2 this past September. Beginning this January, the teachers in
Grades 3-5 in my building (and a few other schools) will be piloting
it. (Gr.6-8 will be piloting portions of Connected Math). Besides
this change, my entire PreK-8th grade school is about to move back to
a building that we haven't been in in since June 2003. We have been
housed in a 115 year old building while our 105 year building was
being renovated. We had thought that we wouldn't be moving back to
the our original site until mid-February at the earliest-Easter
vacation was hinted at as an alternative timing. We didn't find out
that the moving date had been moved up until last Friday. Now we have
to have our classrooms packed to move over the Christmas vacation.
Needless to say, some of us are experiencing a sense of panic.

So far, there has been a couple half day Investigations in-services
for Grades 3-5 that have been presented to us in the past 2 weeks.
We've been told that we will be skipping the Understanding
Numbers/Number Sense portion of the program because it was felt by
this time in the school year our students probably would have been
exposed to enough equivalent instruction- don't forget we won't be
able to fit a full year's program into a half year schedule. We are
not yet sure which other Investigations units we will be told to put
on hold this year.

Any other advise about implementing the Investigations program midyear
will probably go a long way towards helping us remain relatively sane
as we try to cope with the changes we are now facing. We will begin
piloting the Investigations program the week we return from vacation
and move back to our original site, i.e. Jan. 3-7.

Thanks in advance.
