Dear Alessandro,
Legendre is referring here to Lagrange's second edition (1808), which I
do not have in hands. But I remember to have compared both the first
and the second (this second as badly and repaginatedly given by
Gallica, for lazily reproducing a 1961 reprint), and reached to the
conclusion that the paragraph which is of interest for us here is:

I suppose this is what you were asking for. Good to hear from you. Did
you dig the question about Viète's (Viete) algorithms, which , are said
to be the first (published) examples of graphical iteration?
