4 allowed calculator functions

I know there are 4 allowed calculator functions. But I'd like a
clarification on solving equations. If it is necessary to solve equations
simulataneously (to find limits of integration for area between two curves,
say) do the kids have to do this by hand, or rewrite the equation as a
single equation and then find roots, or can they just use the built-in
intersection finder?
