Dear Numeracy folks -

Have you looked recently at the Wikipedia entry for
Numeracy? Wikipedia is an important resources people consult and access
from all
over - and it is important to realize any search on "numeracy" on a
search
engine brings up the Wikipedia netry as one of the first hits, hence it
is
likely to be viewed by many. Yet, the entry for numeracy leaves a lot
to be
desired, to say it mildly, and aspects of adult numeracy are hardly
properly
represented.

Since Wikipedia is a collaborative site, upgrading
the definition is not a complex undertaking. I believe
that not only the conceptual parts of the Wikipedia entry need
attention, but
also discussions of educational practices, links between literacy and
numeracy,
assessment issues,=C2=A0and whatnot, as well as expanding the list of
resources
and links to Web-based documents.
=C2=A0I think members of this list are
very well positioned to inform and upgrade the current entry so as to
better
reflect the adult-related aspects of this domain, using this listserv
as a place
where drafts and ideas can be shared and=C2=A0reacted to.
