Whole Numbers/Integers

When someone says "A whole number IS an integer," I assume he/she is
using the IS of membership or belonging, as opposed, say, to the IS of
existence or the IS of definition. I suppose one could also say, in the
same spirit, a whole number IS a rational number, or a whole number IS a
real number, or a whole number IS a complex number. But I'm with Judith
on this one. :)
