According to Wayne Bishop:

And, it is my opinion based on 36 years in mathematics
education, that some research is good and some is poorly done.
However, I could never make a broad statement about "something"
unless I was familiar with all of "the something."

In my work with the International Congress of Mathematics
Educators I have been very impressed with the research about
education which as come out of other countries. In fact, I've
been much impressed with the friendliness and cooperation among
these educators, both mathematicians and mathematics
educators. Those who have the opportunity of attending ICME
2000 in Japan will see what I mean.

And, many countries in our small world are interested in reform
in mathematics education.
