Here at Key Curriculum Press, we are currently working (with NSF support) on
a software-and-curriculum project called DataSpace for both the Mac and
Windows platforms. The project has just begun "Phase II" SBIR funding, which
means that we're beginning to outline the units and prototype the software.
We will begin serious field-testing in high schools in the fall of 1995. The
way things go, that means you should not expect to buy this product for at
least two years.

While the curriculum materials funded _by this grant_ are NOT intended to
constitute an AP course, the software is designed to support such a course.

Anyone interested in field-testing software or curriculum materials should
contact Sarah Block here at Key (, who is in charge of
coordinating such things.

For general information, we will eventually have a page on the web and will
post that page's birth in this space.

Is anyone exploring the possibilities for software support of the AP
Statistics Course? I see a lot of powerful engines that are comprehensive,
large and
expensive. I also see a few shareware packages, some large, but which in
most cases have drawbacks, most of them in the area of the design interface.
I dont think it is too early to start a serious for titles that are

(a) relatively inexpensive,
(b) dual (at least) platform Mac, Windows/Dos would also be nice to have OS2
(c) comprehensive or a suite of programs

We also need to look at the graphing calculator, by the time that the exam
comes round, I expect that the picture of the calculator capabilities will
have changed dramatically.

Another need is a specification of the capablities of the software.

We can keep the responses archived somewhere and periodically summarize.
