Help with ancient japanese drawing on circle area (proof without

Greetings!

The following ancient japanese drawing

seems to be a "proof without words" for the circle area.

I've found it in the Alsina/Nelsen book (Math Made Visual), but the
authors don't give details about the figure (date, author, reference).
Does anyone know more about it?
