This course will familiarize current subscribers of the
Problems of the Week (PoWs) with the features and resources
associated with your PoW membership access. You will be able to
make an informed decision about how to start implementing PoWs
with your students, and you'll have an idea of further steps to
try when you are ready.
Participation requires Problem of the Week membership at the
Class level or higher. Purchase or renew your PoW Class
membership by June 30th and pay only $70 for this course, a
savings of $79.

Moving Students from Arithmetic to Algebra
...one step at a time
July 29 - August 13 [two-week intensive]

In this course we will examine a continuum of student work from
the Math Forum's Problems of the Week archive. Selected work
will include a range of examples from "not knowing how to
start" to "It's perfect. What could I possibly say to her?" We
will consider specific ways to move students' thinking along
this continuum.
Purchase or renew your PoW Class membership by June 30th and
pay only $70 for this course, a savings of $79. Membership is
not required for this course.

SUMMER PROBLEMS OF THE WEEK

Every two weeks from June through August, we will continue to
post challenging word problems and accept solutions to them.
We encourage teachers with class, school, or district
memberships to design summer projects that draw on Current
Problems or past PoWs, such as the selection from the Problems
of the Week Library highlighted last spring:

We will have only a few volunteers doing mentoring; and our
responses will otherwise be scaled back as we get ready for a
new series of problems at the end of August.
