I am trying to use imread on a 924x924 greyscale tif with slice depth of 16. When i try to use

A=imread('imgdirectory',slice#)
i get the following error message:

??? Error using ==> rtifc
Invalid TIFF image index specified.

Error in ==> readtif at 52
[X, map, details] = rtifc(args);

Error in ==> imread at 430
[X, map] = feval(fmt_s.read, filename, extraArgs{:});

when i try to do it without the index # it tell me I have a 4-D image that contains some normal looking data follwing by a whole lot of zeroes(possibly 15 slices worth?) when i dont suppress the output. I have made the image is only 1 voxel thick with the same results.
