TECHNOLOGY GRANTS FROM VERNIER
http://www.vernier.com/30years/
To celebrate its 30th birthday, Vernier is awarding $300,000 in technology grants to 30 schools: ten elementary or middle schools, ten high schools, and ten college or university departments. Apply for a grant by June 1.
The maker of EasyLink, Navigator, SmartView, and LabPro will judge the applications on three criteria: innovative ideas, concrete plans for implementation, and financial need. Just submit two essays -- one fewer than 500 words in length, the second not longer than 250 words.
For more on the company's math curriculum, probes, sensors, and other data collection devices popularly used with TI graphing calculators and software such as Fathom Dynamic Data, visit

PoW taking place: math problem-solving moment of the week
"At first, I was doing this problem backwards and way over- thinking it. Then, I organized my thoughts by making a chart. What started out as an extremely hard problem became MUCH easier to solve." - Yamini, highlighted in the Algebra PoW's Latest Solution

BETTEREXPLAINED
http://betterexplained.com/
In this blog, Kalid Azad shares his "hard-won 'a ha!' moments" via posts such as
- Intuitive Guide to Angles, Degrees and Radians - Learning How to Count (Avoiding the Fencepost Problem) - How to Analyze Data Using the Average - A Visual, Intuitive Guide to Imaginary Numbers - Surprising Uses of the Pythagorean Theorem - Demystifying the Natural Logarithm
Betterexplained.com continues an idea that Azad began at Princeton University. He has since worked at Microsoft Corporation, and created InstaCalc, a real-time shareable calculator that interprets natural language expressions and equations.
